Fact:
On May 8, 2019, Taliban insurgents detonated an explosive-laden vehicle and then broke into American NGO Counterpart International’s offices in Kabul. At least seven people were killed and 24 were injured.
"The UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team has released its latest report on Afghanistan and the myriad of jihadist activity therein. To discuss, Bill is joined by former director of this team at the UN and longtime friend of the show Edmund Fitton-Brown. Edmund is now a senior advisor to the Counter Extremism Project and previously served as the UK’s ambassador to Yemen."
"The nonprofit Counter Extremism Project (CEP), which has been tracking IS activity in Syria, has likewise been warning of a more active and violent trajectory.
'The level of violence increased in June by every metric compared to May,' CEP said in its monthly report."
"Analysts also have pointed to worrisome indications that the group is resurging, particularly in central Syria. For example, ISIS militants conducted at least 215 attacks in Syria in 2023, a 168% increase over the total in 2022, the international nonprofit Counter Extremism Project said in a March report."
“Yehuda Fox was more than clear. In recent months, "nationalist crime has resurfaced under the guise of war," said the outgoing commander of the Central Command of the Israeli armed forces in his farewell speech last Monday. It has led to "chaos and fear among the Palestinian residents, who pose no threat." Some Israelis have adopted "the methods of the enemy."[…] "There is an extremely radical settler movement in Israel. Its supporters live in the West Bank and see this as a political-ideological act," says Hans-Jakob Schindler, senior director of the international Counter Extremism Project, to the Tagesspiegel. By constantly putting pressure on Palestinian communities in the immediate vicinity, the settlers tried to persuade the Palestinians to leave the West Bank, says Schindler. In doing so, they often set up so-called outposts, small settlements that are illegal even under Israeli law.”
CEP Senior Director Dr. Hans-Jakob Schindler interviewed: "According to Hans-Jakob Schindler, extremism and terror expert, the aim of Russian disinformation campaigns is to deepen divisions within societies - and not just to create a pro-Russian image. He also stresses: 'Anyone who is seen as an enemy cannot act as a mediator.'"
CEP Senior Advisor Ian Acheson quoted: "Home Secretary: Yvette Cooper | Ian Acheson: Yvette Cooper has two enormous challenges that can’t wait for a honeymoon. The first is making her Border Command, the latest iteration in a long line of failed initiatives on controlling illegal migration, actually deliver. The second is restoring the status and importance of community policing in neighbourhoods marooned in criminal impunity with demoralised cops leaving in droves. Both require agility and energy from a Home Office with neither. Her formidable toughness needs to be turned inward. This is a hot seat on fire. "
"Edmund Fitton-Brown, a former British diplomat and now a senior adviser to the Counter Extremism Project, a nonprofit organization, said he was skeptical that the Taliban could be a reliable partner that would help the West prevent terrorist attacks by ISIS-K."
CEP Senior Research Analyst Josh Lipowsky interviewed: "Mr. Lipowsky’s work focuses primarily on antisemitism and on Iran-backed terrorism, including terrorism committed by Hezbollah, Hamas, and militias in Iraq. He has seen a significant rise in antisemitism in the United States in recent months. “Since Hamas’s attack on October 7 and the resulting war, we have seen an explosion of antisemitism in this country related to protests surrounding the war,” he said. “A lot of these protests are, at their core, focusing more on hating Israel than helping the Palestinians. At its core, it is largely being driven by antisemitism.
CEP Senior Advisor Ian Acheson writes: "With prison capacity running at 99 per cent and new jails still on the far horizon, the first priority of the new Lord Chancellor is to stop the criminal justice system grinding to a halt. Keir Starmer, aware that the shelf life of ‘inherited mess’ will be brutally short, has gone on TV to prepare public opinion for the emergency early release of prisoners to continue and go even further. The party’s tough on crime poetry pre-election will collide with the prosaic reality of full, anarchic prisons."
CEP Senior Advisor Ian Acheson writes: "It’s Monday afternoon and I’m walking through the estate where I was born on the outskirts of Enniskillen in Northern Ireland. Here in the United Kingdom’s most westerly and most marginal constituency, politics continues to be war by other means. The Unionist marching season beckons and as well as the usual red white and blue bunting, there are a sea of Israeli flags fluttering in the drizzle. Across town, in nationalist estates, Palestinian flags abound. These adopted tribal identities epitomise the immutable sectarian character of the competition for the seat in Fermanagh and South Tyrone. While Northern Ireland is slowly becoming a more homogenous society and progressive politics makes progress in the urban east, out here on the rural edge of the union, it’s different."
