U.S. National Security Advisor Points to Qutbism as Fueling Violent Jihad

(New York, NY) – U.S. National Security Advisor General H.R. McMaster recently named Turkey and Qatar as the main funders of radical Islamist ideology. In another speech, McMaster also referred to the importance of severing funds to extremist ideologies like Salafism and Qutbism.

“Qutbism, based on the writings of Sayyid Qutb, continues to propel the modern violent jihadist movement, underpinning the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, al-Qaeda and other groups,” Counter Extremism Project (CEP) Executive Director David Ibsen said. “Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden, and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi built their respective terrorist organizations on the pillars of Qutbism, which advocates for the use of terrorist violence to establish governance under Islamic law. McMaster was correct in calling attention to the ideology, and not just the actions of extremist groups, that must be recognized and confronted.”
