Summaries Linked to More In-Depth Biographies 

(New York, NY) – The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) today released a new resource that provides both summary and in-depth information on some of the world’s most dangerous and influential extremists.

CEP’s Propagandists, Recruiters, and Spokespersons fact sheet provides summaries of prominent online recruiters such as Sally Jones of the U.K. and American preacher Ahmad Musa Jibril; recruiters currently imprisoned, like Moroccan Khalid Zerkani, whose disciple included Paris attacks leader Abdelhamid Abaaoud, and British cleric and lawyer Anjem Choudary; inciters from the grave such as American born Anwar al-Awlaki and Egyptian theologian Sayyid Qutb; and spokespersons for terror, like former Guantanamo detainee and current AQAP leader Ibrahim al-Qosi, as well as Abu Muhammad al-Golani, leader of the Nusra Front. 

Many of the individuals profiled in the CEP fact sheet are subject to U.N. sanctions, travel bans, and asset freezes, yet those have done little to address the threat from online terrorist recruitment. The ability of terrorists to use social media and private messaging applications remains an ongoing and dangerous problem, as does the widespread availability on the Internet of writings and sermons that inspire violence and terror around the world.
